Today's Tip: Clean a little every day.
In a small space especially, having a daily cleaning schedule where you clean a part of the house every day is important. If followed, this schedule will not allow the house to get to the point where every single area desperately needs cleaning at the same time. You will probably always live in a little clutter, if you have small kids in a small space, like I do, but you don't have to live in dirty.
I love Pinterest, but when I decided I needed to find a daily cleaning schedule and print it out, I spent way too much time searching and reading and pinning and wound up just completely overwhelmed by reading about what other people thought I needed to do about my house cleaning. Silly, really. So many cute schedules, so many cute pictures... I was overwhelmed. Overwhelmed, yet inspired by the idea. One woman said that with a daily cleaning schedule it felt like her house cleaned itself. What? That sounded way too good to be true. (It is.) But I've followed my daily cleaning schedule, albeit loosely some weeks, for about four months now, and I've found it to be wonderful.
I didn't print a cute schedule, I just wrote my own simple one in pencil and put it on my fridge. I also made a daily chores chart for the boys. I haven't been as good about enforcing theirs as mine, but I know mine matters much more. Theirs is more about instilling the principle that they need help clean the house.
It's important to make the schedule yours and make it attainable. I wanted cleaning off my kitchen counters to be a part of every day so I have counters and one other item for each day. If you're not happy with the way it's going, change the schedule, don't just give up.
When you think about it, cleaning two toilets or vacuuming a room only takes a couple minutes. Spreading the tasks out it makes them so much easier. I've also made some tasks monthly, which I've found helpful too. Nothing seems to get nearly as dirty ever now. It might only be a mental thing, but it's a mental thing that I love. :)
Consider working in a daily cleaning schedule, if you haven't yet. You'll like it!
Have a wonderful Wednesday!
